Stock Locations

Stock storage locations allow you to record where individual stock batches are physically stored within your lab. This makes it easier for users to locate inventory that may be stored in different rooms, shelves, cabinets or other locations.

Recording a Location When Receiving Stock

A storage location can be assigned when a new stock batch is received.

  1. Go to Stock > Receive Stock.
  2. Select the Stock Item and enter the required batch details.
  3. Select a location from the Storage Location dropdown.
  4. Complete the remaining stock details and click Receive Stock.

The location is optional, so stock can still be received without selecting a location.

Note

Locations are taken from your organization's Locations list configured under the Lists function.

Viewing Stock Locations

Once stock has been received, its storage location is displayed alongside the individual batch record details.

Go to Stock > Inventory and select a stock item to open its details.

Under Available Batches, the Storage Location column shows the location assigned to each stock batch. Because locations are recorded at batch level, different batches of the same stock item can be stored in different locations.

Updating Stock Locations

A stock storage location can be changed after the stock has been received, for example, if the stock has been moved to another room or storage area.

  1. Go to Stock > Inventory.
  2. Select the relevant stock item.
  3. Find the batch under Available Batches.
  4. Click the Edit icon for the stock record.
  5. Select the new location and save your changes.

Changes to a stock storage location are recorded in the audit log, providing traceability when stock is moved.

Managing Locations

Stock locations use the system Locations list. This means that you do not need to maintain a set of locations for inventory.

If a location you need is not available when receiving or editing stock, it must first be added to your organization's configured Locations list.
