Sample Locations

The sample location feature allows users to record where a sample is physically stored within the lab. This helps ensure that samples can be quickly located when needed.

Locations are managed through a central list and can be assigned to individual samples.

Setting Up Locations

Before assigning locations to samples, the available locations must be configured.

  1. Navigate to the Setup > Lists menu.
  2. Select the Locations system list from the drop down.
  3. Add entries to represent physical storage locations.

The Locations list is empty by default and must be populated by your organization.

Assigning a Location to a Sample

The Location field is available on each sample and can be used to record where the sample is stored.

How to Update

  1. Open the sample details screen for a sample by clicking on the Sample ID.
  2. Locate the Location field.
  3. Select the appropriate location from the dropdown.
  4. Save the changes.

Once assigned, the selected location is stored with the sample and is not affected by future changes to the Locations list.

Viewing Locations

Sample locations are visible in multiple areas of the system to support quick reference:

  • Sample Details screen - displayed as part of the sample information
  • Quick view panel - visible when viewing sample details in the side panel
  • Sample list - shown as a column in the sample table

Filtering by Location

You can filter samples based on their assigned location using the Location filter on the sample list view.

This allows users to quickly find all samples stored in a specific location.
