A sample label is a printable label for attachment to samples for physical sample tracking.

A user must have the Reports: Download label     permission in order to print sample labels.

Sample labels display the Sample ID, Job ID, batch number and product.

Printing Sample Labels

A sample label can be printed at the point of receiving samples:

  1. From the menu, select Lifecycle > Receive Samples.
  2. Search and select a job from the Search jobs input.
  3. In the product samples table, select the [ Download Sample Label ] button.

  1. A new window will appear displaying a PDF of the sample label.
  2. The label can be downloaded or printed from this interface.

Printing Labels for All Selected Samples on Receipt

The sample receipt step also provides a setting that allows users to automatically download labels for all selected samples when receiving.

Enabling Label Download on Receipt

  1. Navigate to the Receive Samples screen.
  2. Select the samples you wish to receive.
  3. Locate the option 'Download labels for selected samples on receipt'.
  4. Tick the checkbox to enable automatic label download.

This is a retained user setting. If enabled, LabHQ will remember your selection and automatically apply it the next time you receive samples.

  1. Click Receive.

Once the samples are successfully received, a PDF containing labels for all selected samples will automatically download.

A sample label can be printed from the sample view after a sample has been submitted:

  1. From the jobs list on the dashboard, select a job that relates to the sample you wish to print.
  2. In the sample summary, select the sample you wish to print a label for.
  3. In the bottom left, select the [ Label ] button.

  1. A new window will appear displaying a PDF of the sample label.
  2. The label can be downloaded or printed from this interface.

📒 Steps 1 and 2 above can be ignored if you are viewing the samples-list on the dashboard. Instead, simply select a sample from the list, and continue from step 3. The sample label print settings can be customized by utilizing the print settings in the browser you are using. For example, to print multiple labels or scale the label to the size of paper you are using.


Print All Labels for a Job

You can generate and print sample labels for every sample in a job directly from the View Job screen.

  1. Open the View Job screen for the job you wish to print sample labels for.
  2. Click on the Sample Labels button.
  3. A PDF file containing all sample labels will automatically download.
  4. Open the downloaded PDF file.
  5. Send the PDF to your label printer using your standard print workflow.

Labels are ordered by Sample ID in ascending order.


Label Templates

If your subscription includes custom label templates and a custom template is configured in Label Settings, that template will be used.

If no custom template is available, LabHQ will automatically use the standard label template.


File Format

All labels are provided in a single PDF file for easy printing.
